Last week was Fashion Week in New York, but perhaps the most interesting fashion statement was actually an anti-fashion statement made by PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals).

A huge version of their poster, above, featuring Pamela Anderson Lee, was erected in Times Square early in the week in order to draw attention to the cruelties to animals involved in producing fur for fashion.

I've always said that the purpose of female beauty is to sell morality to mankind.  I've said that if we treat female beauty and sexuality with the respect it deserves, with the admiration appropriate to something moral and good, that we would see it graduate from selling shampoo and sex to selling mind and morality.

This poster represents that graduation.

It's a victory for animal rights and female beauty.

But there's more to the story.

It seems PETA was forced to censor the ad before they were allowed to display it. The final version of the ad only showed Miss Lee from the shoulder up. Apparently someone had a problem with the tiny bit of breast that is visible.

But why? What's the worst that could have happened had we been allowed to enjoy the poster uncensored?  Undoubtedly it would have helped drum up interest in PETA's cause, and maybe some animals would be spared.

Obviously someone hates female beauty and sexuality more than they love animals.

This doesn't surprise me.  I've known for a long time that nothing is more hated in our society than female beauty, and that when some people have a choice between ending cruelty to animals and taking a cheap shot at Pamela Lee, it's the cheap shot that they choose.

Nothing and no one is subjected to more cruelty and abuse than attractive women. (Click for examples). The fact that this poster was censored demonstrates more perfectly than anything I could have invented that hatred of human beings will have to end before cruelty to animals does.
